I know – this sounds like a really strange question. And it is a strange question, but it’s a question that just may be rooted in fact, and could just be a sign that you’re now living for two (or more)!
Pregnancy is a “condition” that is often shrouded in mystery, although modern medical science usually has most any facts you need to answer most any questions. But, is gas a sign of pregnancy – really? Strangely enough – yes, it is, and it’s more often an early sign of pregnancy that is usually ignored. How many times have you had excessive gas and thought “am I pregnant?” For me, the answer is never! I mean, gas is usually dependent on what you ate – maybe that chili casserole last night wasn’t such a great idea! Let’s face it – while the guys often think excessive gas, or flatulence as it’s officially known as, is an entertaining situation (think: pull my finger!), us ladies would really never be in that situation in the first place – right? It’s just not ladylike to be farting like a guy – and then to be proud of it. So, we ladies just treat this completely natural happening a little differently than the guys do. And, that’s just fine with me.
When a woman is in the early stages of pregnancy, her body is beginning to under go massive changes. All of these changes are designed to support and nurture that new life within. And that new life wouldn’t have a chance of developing to a full-term baby if your body doesn’t make some big changes – early on and fast.
Some of these changes ar subtle, and difficult to detect. Take, for example an elevated basal body temperature. The temperature elevation of one-half to one degree in your body temperature – taken when your body is at its lowest natural temperature in the early morning hours – would be difficult to notice unless you take your temperature every morning as you’re laying in bed!
Realistically, not many of us are going to do this, unless we have some reason to believe that we’re in the early stages of pregnancy.
On the other hand, some of these changes aren’t difficult to detect – like morning sickness!I can only speak for myself, but I don’t usually start my day with nausea and vomiting! Those little signs usually tell me something – either I ate something that didn’t agree with my system, or I’m pregnant! Morning sickness just kind of slaps you in the face as you’re hanging over the toilet, excuse me, ladies, retching and wondering what you did to deserve this! I think, it’s pretty obvious!
And, then there’s the gas. In this instance, medical science really doesn’t have a definitive answer for us, but they do have some theories. I think that everyone knows that a digestive system is sometimes rather easy to upset. And this could be especially true if the body in question is beginning to undergo massive structural, chemical and hormonal changes associated with early signs of pregnancy. So, it would stand to reason that as these changes begin to happen to our bodies, our digestive systems get a little out of whack, and creates a little – or a lot – of gas. Sometimes, the stress involved is enough to upset your system – and gas can be a real clue to that stress.
So, while it can be true that is gas a sign of pregnancy, make sure you see your doctor first if you have even the slightest of hints that you’re pregnant.
