Paragard IUD, missed period, negative pregnancy test!?

Question by Anonymous: Paragard IUD, missed period, negative pregnancy test!?
Hi. I got on Paragard IUD [copper] last month and I had a period that lasted 10 days, and my doctor put me under the influence that my periods would start and I’d be bleeding pretty heavy. Well, this month, in a nutshell, my period is 3 days overdue. I took a pregnancy test and it came up negative; the pregnancy test box said for me to wait 3 more days & test again if I don’t get my period. Honestly, I think I’m paranoid about being pregnant because I just had a baby July 31st and I am in no hurry to have another one…
My question is, when should I see the doctor? How long should I wait? I’m at a loss & I have no idea what to do.
Thanks!

My guess is your body is still trying to get used to the IUD and your periods will be irregular until your body adjusts to it. Just give it time and it will come. It is suggested that when you get an IUD put in you should still use a back up for at least two weeks to let it work correctly. I would a wait a couple weeks and then call if you are still worried. When I had an IUD in I never had a period.

i had my baby june 5 and got my IUD about 8 weeks later (august 1), and my period still hasn’t “fully” came. i got my period once, and i still haven’t had a second period. i’ve just been spotting here and there. i think you just need to give it time! just remember your hormones are still kind of out of control, and that may be a reason for you not getting your period. good luck and congrats on the baby!

Wait another few days or a week and retest. If your period doesn’t come within another week or so after that, call your doctor and request a blood test if you keep testing negative, just in case. Your body is probably just adjusting to the device and your period will probably come.
