Question by jd: Missed Period/Negative Pregnancy Test?
I’ve been on the pill for about 7 years now. I always get my period on Tuesday morning without any interuption or irregularity. This month however, I have not gotten a period at all (no spotting or anything) I took a pregnancy test about 2-3 day I was supposed to get my period and it came back negative. I went to the Dr today and she couldnt’ give me any real answers and said that they could give me a urine test as well but it’s just as effective as the home test so we didn’t do it.
What else could this be? Is there something else that would be causing me to miss my period or is there a possibility of pregnancy. I’m confused and have never had to deal with this before.
And no, I didn’t miss any pills. There were days where I wouldn’t take them at the exact same time but nothing missed.

Congrats mom! Just wait a few more days and take the test again. It could be too soon to show up.

It could be that you are stressed about something or someone or you have a lot things you are trying to do in a day.
could just be you won’t have a period this time. Just keep the pill cycle going and don’t mess it up.
Did you skip any pills? If not, you’re probably not pregnant. Could be any number of reasons.
Your body may be under stress. Sports OR Losing Weight too fast can cause this to happen to your body. I doubt that you are pregnant.
The blood test is the ONLY way, your doctor can tell you 100% if you are pregnant. Call and ask for the Blood Test.
You may have Thyroid OR Diabetes also.
Well, the Pill is supposed to regulate your period and it is an “artificial” period to make you more comfortable. However, you could just be under a lot of stress recently, or perhaps it just didn’t come. Your doctor should have been able to do more for you than that, if they insisted they wouldn’t then you need a second opinion. Also, you still MAY be pregnant, sometimes it takes a little longer to show up.
I think you should get an HCG blood test done. If you have had sex then there is a small 2% chance that’s the reason for a missed period without skipping any pills. If you have just recently changed brands then this is normal. If not request the blood test.
What is the problem with doctors today? Geez, your doctor makes my blood boil. I am fortunate to have a doctor who takes precautions, such as an in-office pregnancy test. She insists on it. You deserve good medical care, first of all. If your doctor is too lazy to do a urine test, imagine what else he/she will skimp on in the future. Get an in-office urine test (I suggest another doctor do this).
Personally, I think you’re okay. As we get older, our periods become more unreliable. I used to get them like clockwork, but I’m in my thirties now and they come when they feel like it. It could just be stress or hormones.
What else could this be?
Hmmmm – too soon to tell, but it could be something related to your hormones, you don’t state your age, but I’m guessing you’re not the age for menopause. Some women have early onset / symptoms of menopause.
Are you overly stressed? That can cause a period to skip a month.
Are you extremely thin / athletic? Some women who have a very low body fat content will have their periods stop or skip months.
Is there a possibility of pregnancy? Well, you’re the only one with an answer for that. Were you sexually active since your last period? I assume the answer is yes. Then yes, you might be pregnant. However, the home and in office tests are extremely sensitive now. Most can detect pregnancy hormones in as little as 1-2 days post conception. That is usually prior to when a woman would think she is pregnant or has missed a cycle.
Do you have any other symptoms of pregnancy? Nausea. Feeling tired or run down. Breast tenderness. Most women have a pretty good idea before they pee on the stick.
I’d say repeat the home test in one week (just to be sure) and then give it another month. If you miss 2 cycles in a row without a positive pregnancy test, then its time to re-visit the doctor (preferably an OB/GYN) to figure out what is going on.
Best of luck and I hope the pergnancy test comes out the way you are hoping (either yes or no).
