Question by Kay08: I had one positive pregnancy test today. Then later taking one it said negative. How can this happen?
How can you have one pregnancy test say positive and another negative in one day??? Could it be the positive test was done in the morning and the one done in the evening not detect the HCG level then? Should I test again or assume if one said positive then it means I’m pregnant?

You are def. pregnant. It is just because your hormone levels fluctuate and are higher during the morning. Take one again in the morning and I am sure it will be positive! Congrats!
just remember and it says this in the instructions, that negitive isn’t always negitive, but positive is always positive..you’re pregnant, the second test was either old or defective
In order for a pregnancy test to be positive the hormone had to be there so you are probably pregnant. I am currently pregnant with my second child and ive taken 20 pregnancy tests. Some of them were negative but I wa sstill pregnant.

It is best to take a test in the mornings if you are testing early. just take another one in the morning to be sure.

I would say your pregnant if one came back positive because its very rare to get a negative postive but its common to negative negative. so i would wait until tomorrow morning to test or couple of days. because each day your hormones double if it still comes back negative then i would go to get a blood work done. congraas and good luck

You can never have a false pos test only a false neg. You are pregnant go to the doc to get a blood test to confirm.
Your HCG hormone is not strong early in the pregnancy. that is why you are to take the tests in the morning before you drink anything. So if you want to see the positive again, take it in the morning when the hormone is strong and not diluted. Congratulations):
My doctor told me that it is very unlikely to have a false positive, but you can have a false negative. The best time to test is in the morning. I would go to the doctor to get a blood test to be sure. I would venture a guess to say you are pregnant. I hope that this is a blessing and good luck.
False positives are more rare than false negatives. It could be that the HCG in your urine was too diluted for the second test. I’d wait a few days and test again, just to be sure.
The first one was probably earlier in the day…maybe your first or second urine…The other one didn’t have enough of the hormone as your body has been flushing all day…congrats
NORMAl, you are prego, tests can vary in the beginning, but 1 pos. is just that POS.

Do not assume anything. Take another home test and see if it’s positive. Either way you should make a dr. appt. There are other issues though you could be having that would cause a “false positive” such as ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and hormone imbalances.
It is more likely to get a false negative rather than a false positive. So more than likely you are pregnant. If you want some reassurance go get a blood test done. But..that has happened to me before. I took a cheap CVS test, the one where if you are pregnant 2 lines come up, and it said I was pregnant. The next morning I took another from a different pack and it was negative. So I went to get a blood test and it was negative. I am thinking I had a defective test. I did read online sometimes that can happen, and you have a miscarriage and not even know you had one, and you will start your period and it will be heavier than usually. Good luck with everything!
you should retest yourself or maybe the doctor could help….But they say if you pee a little first then pee on the stick you get better results and if your pee is cloudy it could be misread did you read instructions right…I would look again and test again
I had a false positive last year with a digital test. It can happen for a number of reasons. Either an ectopic pregnancy, or maybe the test was bad. Wait another day or two and take another one. I took a test 2 weeks ago and have gotten 3 positives and a positive from my Doc so it can happen. And yes…..you can have a false positive.
