Question by maleficent_rocks: How accurate are at home pregnancy tests?
My husband and I are trying to get pregnant and we are hoping it’s finally happened. I am more than a month late and have many of the early signs of pregnancy, yet I’ve taken 3 at home tests and they all say negative. Is going to the dr more accurate? If so, how long does it take to get results back? Also, is there a difference in at home tests? Is there a better brand?

You need to take the test first thing in the morning. If you’re really that late and they are still showing negative you probably aren’t pregnant, but the doctor’s blood test IS more accurate.

Blood tests are more accurate than pee tests but the doctors pee tests are the same exact thing as store bought tests and they are all 99% so after taking 3 tests I would say your probably not pregnant but you may be missing your period due to stress, if you stress about being pregnant you can fool your body into thinking its pregnant.
Best bet is a dr blood test or an ultrasound
Good Luck!
going to the doctor would be a better idea… i have taken a few.. and i think i am but every single home test i take has come out negative.. so the doctor would be better..
and good luck hun =) i hope you and your husband get what you want out of this
Blood tests are more accurate and usually come back within a couple days but with both my pregnancies my home preg tests were both correct, With my first I took 4 tests 2 EPT, and 2 cheap brands from the dollor store and I was a week late, with my second we were TTC and I took a dollar test 2 weeks before my period was even due and it was positive. So I’d say there usually accurate and can’t see 3 of them being wrong.
We used the regular first response. I found a website that listed which were most sensitive. It is best to test first thing in the morning when your urine is strongest. As I recall the first response test, walmart brand test and dollar tree tests were the most sensitive. Crazy huh? The dollar store tests don’t even get peed on so they are a lot cleaner. Pee in a throw away cup or something and then use the dropper to take the test. The dr’s office can give you a blood test, but it depends on their lab how long that will take. They also give pee in a cup tests at some offices, but they should be about the same as others.
